I started this journal to track my progress, not just with dieting, but towards a "healthier Jenni!" I sort of got away from it, but, having just recently turned 30, and trying to get a new job but not fitting into the nice clothes in my closet (and not being able to afford to replace my wardrobe), and just because I feel crappy about myself all the time - more than ever now I feel like it's time to give this whole "being healthy" thing a serious effort!

I want to address my diet - not just how much I eat, but also which foods I eat - and not just foods, but also beverages, since I am a total soda junkie and sometimes it's kind of frightening how many days go by before I'll realize I haven't had a glass of water in those days! :O I think a part of this step of becoming healthier will be to become friends with the kitchen. I feel like I'm always choosing microwavable foods, which I know aren't really good for me, or I'm snacking on junk food. Maybe if I could become better at cooking, I'd be better at making more intelligent eating decisions too!

I also need to add more exercise to my life. I'm already making sure that I never use the elevator at work, but instead always take the stairs, and most of the time I take a walking break at work. This is a good start, but I think I need something more - not just to lose some weight, but also because I've been promised that exercising regularly causes your energy level to go up. My energy level now is such that I always feel fatigued, so, an increase in energy level is definitely something I need!

I guess the main goal is to lose about 20 pounds. I want to be healthy about it, so I made sure to check a BMI calculator so that I know I am aiming for a weight that is right for me, and it seems like I am indeed.

So. . . Off I go!
